SOLACE IN NEED
GIVE SOMETHING BACK
DONATION AND HELP
OUR HISTORY
Africa suffers and thirsts for life. Even more than before after the Corona years and the events of the war. It's about life and death. For this reason, Pastor Donsy, who knows the need in Zambia very well from his own visits, took the initiative and, together with a team of like-minded people, who all work on a voluntary basis, founded an association to use donations to help those in need in Zambia, Africa to help sustainably.
In Africa, a well-established team is also available to implement the projects under the direction of the «Fathers of the Discalced Carmelites». The Fathers also work for God's reward and ensure serious processing.
WHERE AND HOW WE ARE INVOLVED WITH OUR PROJECTS IN ZAMBIA
Zambia is a landlocked country with an area of 752,614 km2 and is located in south-eastern Africa, with an estimated population of just under 19 million (2021), the capital is called Lusaka with a population of just under 2.5 million. Zambia is considered one of the poorest countries in the world. In Zambia, children make up almost 50% of the population. Zambia's children live in extreme poverty and face challenges such as malnutrition, prison sentences, educational disadvantage, child marriages and forced labour. The economy is predominantly based on agriculture. Each of the estimated 190,000 farm owners owns about 2.4 hectares of land on which mainly maize, beans, cotton, peanuts, sunflowers, millet and rice are cultivated. A small amount of livestock is also raised.
Our project is located in Mwanchawanthu, geographically in the east of Zambia, in Petauke District. This is the second poorest province in Zambia. The Mwanchawanthu area is known for its immense water scarcity and the population has very few water sources. Furthermore, there are no facilities to collect rainwater.
In Mwanchawanthu, 96% of the people are distressed farmers who invariably depend on rain for their agriculture. The precarious state of the roads is an additional obstacle to the transport of aid.
There are many factors that influence life in Mwanchawanthu:
The first and most urgent project is the collection of water. And, as long as there is no or hardly any electricity in these villages, people have to fetch water from a deep borehole with a generator or an improvised hand pump.
Our project "Comfort in Need - Hope for Zambia" therefore plans to quickly build boreholes to provide water to the people, inside and outside the mission area of the Carmelite Mission. This is also one of the most important main concerns of the various development projects of the Carmelite Mission, which has been active in this region since 2014.
Currently, the Catholic Church in Zambia is divided into 11 dioceses. The number of Catholics in Zambia is around 26% of the population. The first Catholics were Jesuits who came to Zambia in 1879. The White Fathers followed in 1891 and in 1931 it was the Franciscans who established the first permanent missions.
Even in today's Zambia, the Catholic Church alone runs 15 hospitals, 28 health centres and 54 home care facilities.
